The SN620-1 Scratch Resistance Tester is meticulously designed and manufactured by our company in accordance with the relevant provisions of GB/T 9279-1 "Test for Scratch Resistance of Paints and Varnishes," ISO 1518-1 "Determination of Scratch Resistance of Paints and Varnishes—Part 1: Constant Load Method," and BS EN 13523-12 "Metal Coated with Coils—Test Methods—Part 12: Scratch Resistance." This instrument is used to measure the scratch-through and scratch resistance of single or composite coating systems, as well as water-based wood paints, under standard conditions. Additionally, it employs a high-speed ratio and high-output torque gear reducer to ensure consistent scratch pin movement speed under varying test loads, delivering highly accurate test results.


The SN620-1 scratch resistance tester can currently perform two main types of coating scratch tests on substrates: one is to test the scratch resistance of coatings on colored and clear paints. The substrate is metal, and whether the paint film has been scratched through can be intuitively obtained by the buzzer alarm on the instrument; Another method is to test the scratch resistance of water-based wood coatings, using wood as the substrate and observing with the naked eye or magnifying glass to determine if the paint film has been scratched.


1、 Instrument principle

The principle of SN620-1 scratch resistance tester is to apply pressure and move hard materials on the surface of the sample, thereby generating scratches or marks, and evaluating the scratch resistance of the material.

During the testing process, the relative motion between the scratching head and the sample will produce a unidirectional linear trajectory. The width, depth, and color changes of the scratches can be used to evaluate the scratch resistance performance of the material.


2、 Instrument application

In practical operation, the scratch resistance tester applies a certain force to the surface of the sample by hard materials to evaluate their scratching effect on the material surface. In general, the scraping force is usually between 2~10N, depending on the properties of the material and testing requirements.

For example, some studies have mentioned a loading force range of 10N to 30N, indicating that adjustments to the force may be necessary to adapt to the scratch resistance of different materials during testing. The testing method may vary depending on the application scenario.
